Welcome to Liyuen

Liyuen in Phoenix, AZ, is a no-frills Chinese spot known for its savory dishes. While the orange chicken lacked a distinct flavor, the shrimp fried rice shined with fresh, high-quality shrimp. The Y7 combo offers a satisfying meal with a slight breading overload on the chicken. Despite small hiccups in service and a questionable location, the food quality makes a visit worthwhile. Embrace the jalapeño wings and flavorful lo mein for a true taste of American Chinese cuisine. Though there may be a wait, the diverse menu and consistent quality make Liyuen a standout in Phoenix.

I'd been craving American Chinese food and finally decided to check out this spot that I'd heard about for ages. It's a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall setup--just a single takeout window, a line to order, and people hanging around waiting for their food. I went on a Friday evening, waited about 10 minutes in line to place my order, got a number card, and then waited another 30 minutes for my food to be ready (they call your number when it's up). Unfortunately, there was a mix-up with our order number--we were given a #10 card, but they wrote #1 on the receipt, so we got our food later than we should have. I ordered the Y7 combo (orange chicken with shrimp fried rice). The flavors were great, but the orange chicken was missing any "orange" flavor. The chicken itself was good, though a bit heavy on the breading--about 40% of each piece was just batter. The shrimp fried rice was the highlight: flavorful, with high-quality shrimp that felt fresh. A couple of tips: They accept Visa and Mastercard, but there's a $0.75 fee for card payments, and they don't take Amex (they check your ID if you use a credit card!). If you don't want to wait in line, you can call ahead and place your order, which is probably what I'd do next time. While we won't be rushing back, we'd give it another shot when we're in the mood for good American Chinese food. Just keep in mind, it's not in the most fancy neighborhood in town, but the food is worth a visit if you're looking for a casual spot.

Best "Hood" Chinese food in Arizona. Argue with your mother . Be aware of your surroundings. Restaurant could do a better job of managing the line, walk up ordering could be disorganized. Food has been consistently high quality but prices are beginning to rise to an illogical level for Chinese takeout food. For the price, a person could go to a sit down restaurant instead and be safe vs the random threats of waiting outside in a questionable area. I reiterate that the food is good enough to endure the restaurants fixable service flaws & to overlook the questionable location. Jalapeño wings are a must try

Is definitely a hole in a wall spot. I've been going here for years and always order the same 3 things, however today I decided to order something different so I got the curry chicken. I must say it was a good choice it was very savory and even tho it says spicy it wasn't spicy at all. The majority of people post the wings which are very tasty so I thought I'd post something different so here ya go.

the food has a big servings and i like how there teriyaki chicken is not salty or sweet, it was a perfect balance of taste and umami flavor. the broccoli beef you will know that it taste authentic, the beef is soft and tender. there Jalapeno chicken was crunchy and spicy and for an appetizer its big, you can have it as an entree if you're a small eater. the vegetables egg roll is okay. the crab puff is okay too. i like the drinks they have specially the mango lemonade tea, it's refreshing. the wait time was 15-20 some times 30minutes depending on how many people is in there. we came there lunch time so we waited around 20minutes. just please hydrate or stay on shade when waiting during lunch cause it's hot and they don't have any chairs.
